Holland Press on to the Quarter Finals
Arjen Robben started it all for the Dutch at the 18 minute mark, with a beautiful goal from outside the box. Wesley Sneijder then doubled Holland's lead with six minutes remaining.
Bizarrely, Slovakia were given a penalty that ended up being the last kick of the game, but the final 2-1 score line was only flattering to Slovakia. Holland controlled the game through out, especially through Robben's brilliant display of speed and control. Maarten Stekelenburg, the Dutch goalkeeper, also continued his inspired World Cup performance, with a couple absolutely brilliant saves.
Holland were a little passive at times, but never under threat. The hard working defensive midfielder Nigel de Jong was a constant problem for Slovakia, as was Wesley Sneijder in attack. However, Sneijder had a few chances that went amiss, but he made sure to put his goal away in the 84th minute, a strike that sealed the game for the Dutch.
Slovakia did well to get out of the group stage already and should go home with pride. The Dutch will need to raise their game if they are to progress towards the final, but they certainly have the talent, ability and organization that could take them far, even to win the cup itself.
