Squash Olympic event -- Hope shifts
In 2005, a strong hope of Squash entry into Olympics was raised when it won more than 50% votes from International Olympic Committee members for 2012 Olympics. Later in IOC meeting at Singapore, it failed to make when it could not secure the required two third of majority. World Squash Federation, WSF, did not lose hope and set their eyes on 2016 Olympics.
WSF campaigned globally for the support inclusion and it was short listed for 2016 Olympics in Rio De Janeiro along with seven other sports like karate, baseball etc. Despite the best efforts put, it still could not make it and hope now shifts to next Olympics. Jahangir Khan, the head of WSF, has all reasons to believe that Squash would be able to make its Olympics debut since it is a healthy, exciting and worldly sport.
Positive part helping Squash is that it is a lifetime sport, played by all continents by both Men and Women with excellent players across the globe. In World championship, all continents participated and WSF has members from 138 nations. Squash events are backed by inexpensive facilities, easy to set up courts and technological backing for television viewers. Negative part affecting Squash entry is the non attractive clothes of players as seen on screen and difficult system of refereeing the game. Since positives definitely outweigh negatives, Squash may become part of Olympics in near future.
