Thrilling Trampoline Gymnastic events in Olympics

Trampoline gymnastic event is held for both men and women in Olympics since 2000. One entry per continent is assured in this event while host nation is given an entry by default. National Olympics Committee is authorized to recommend two entries and the remaining participants are chosen from world championship standings. In the last Olympics held in 2008 in Beijing, sixteen gymnasts each participated in both men and women events.

Participant in trampoline uses equipment made of metal frame around a nylon spring bed, called trampoline and performs activities like twists and flying flips during bounce. There are two types of scoring in this event, one is difficulty score and other is execution score. In difficulty scoring, participant's score is based on skill difficulties while in execution scoring, score starts from 10 and keeps on decreasing with the numbers of errors.

Performance of gymnast is judged based on execution skill, quality of finish, level of difficulty and variety. Gymnasts perform ten skills in the preliminary round that consists of voluntary and compulsory routines. Top eight rankers from preliminary round advance to finals where they perform only voluntary routine. Preliminary scores are not carried forward but affect the order in which finalists perform. Top scorer in the finals is awarded gold, second scorer gets silver and third scorer wins bronze.
