Water Motorsports -- A Predictive Olympic Event

Water Motorsports games were the first and only to feature as a motorized sports. It was featured as a demonstration sport in the 1900 summer Olympics. In the 1908 summer Olympic Games, three motorboat racing events were introduced. All three motorboat racing events used the same distance. This event contains five laps to cover around an eight nautical mile course. A total of 40 nautical miles (70 km) is the distance of this event. Multiple boats were started in each of the events, but only one boat will finish. It was due to the gale that was blowing during the competition.

The three events were class A – open, class B – under 60 feet and class C – 6.5 to 8 meters. The open class competition took place at the first day of the Olympic Games. Two boats began the race. The next day the other two races were competed. The Camille boat alone finishes the race. No other boats were finished. Emile Thurbon of France who rides Camille won the gold medal. In the class B, only two boats Quicksilver and Gyrinus competed at the starting line. Quicksilver get threatened by the water on the side and the boat get abandoned the race. Gyrinus, a small boat from Great Britain finish the race and won the gold medal. In the class C event, the class B event winner Gyrinus boat and Sea Dog boat competed. Sea Dog boat experienced engine problems and withdrew from the race. Gyrinus of Great Britain finished the race and won the gold medal.

The event took place at Southampton where no one could see the event. In that, six out of nine events get cancelled due to bad weather condition. Speeds were not impressive and the average speed will be 19 mph. This sport was not a great spectator event. We can't see this event again in the Olympic Games.
