Snickers? I am batman!
Of the world of advertising, I think the things that stand out most are those that are most non-sequitor. The recent Old Spice "The man your man could smell like" commercial is a great example of that. Since commercials are kind of the background rhythm of a normal television viewing experience, anything that snaps me out of that really sticks with me as one the memorable ones. I particularly loved an old Snickers commercial involving a football player receiving a really hard hit. The coach leans over to the protesting QB and asks:
Coach: "Where are you?"
QB: "The yard"
Coach: "Who am I?"
QB (smiling): "You're coach!"
Coach: "Who are you?"
QB (serious): "I'm batman".
"Not going anywhere for a while?" The tone goes from normal to bizarre so fast that it makes you pay attention to the message. It's a great commercial that sells by entertaining.
