Laughing Track Keeps Me From Laughing
Why is the laugh track so obvious in this show. I feel like it has gotten more and more obtrusive each season. Not only that, but the laugh track is being used at times when things are not even funny. Not even a joke that just isn't funny, but something that was just a plain statement elicits the laugh track these days.
This show does not need this gimmick in order to succeed. Get back to the witty writing and let the all-star cast work their magic. Quit taking the easy jokes and then insult our intellect with your obnoxious laugh track.
The worst abuse of this device involves scenes with Berta. Instead of giving the character funny, sarcastic lines like they once did, the writing staff now just has her same something utterly ridiculous and then starts the laugh track. I understand it is season 7 and things get stale, but there is a flip side to that coin: It is season 7 and we barely know anything about Berta. Instead of character development we have been given a laughing track.
I don't need them to remove the laughing track, just make it more subtle. Quiet it down and don't let it be over bearing. Use the writing and talent to get laughs, not a cheap effect.
