How To Make The Most Of Your Dollar

This day and age, many people find themselves a little short on cash. This could be partly due to the current economical situation and the rising cost for gas, services, food and various other items that we as consumers want or need to survive. I have learned over the years, how to stretch my dollar and get the most bang for my buck. I have a number of suggestions on money saving which have proven effective for me, and can help you save money as well.

First and most importantly, learn to cook for yourself and your family. If you add up the cost each month of going out to dinner, you might be amazed how much money you spend. Can you imagine all of the groceries you could buy with all the money you spend on going out to eat? Other benefits of cooking your own food are obviously health related. Less fat and sugar in the diet, as well as smaller controlled portions, are benefits that could make us health and happier altogether.

Secondly, take advantage of yard sales! My husband and I have taken up a hobby that we enjoy together each weekend. We search for yard sales around the neighborhood and end up with some unbelievable bargains! Instead of buying something new at a dept. store, we search for items at yard sales. It has become a passion of ours that we are excited to do as we anticipate each weekend when our bargain hunting begins. Some days we find furniture for our home, decorations, games for children, and just about anything else! Once in a while we find an "antique" and end up selling it on Ebay for a profit. One day we found a pair of $200.00 speakers that we paid $7.00 for. Eventually, we sold them on Ebay for $200.00. That was one of our biggest profits.

Thirdly, take advantage of store coupons and sales. Watch for sales at the grocery store and stock up on items that are specials or clearance items. It is amazing how much money you can save with coupons or clearance items. If you order online for items, make sure you look for online coupon codes and free shipping codes that can be used. It is amazing how much some online stores can charge for shipping!

Finally, make sure that what you are buying is a "need" and not just a "want". If we can differentiate between the two, we will certainly find that there are so many items and services that we can really do without.

Hopefully, these money saving tips can help you save money and become more aware of where the money goes and how to keep more of it for yourself. One last thought, as a kind gesture to others, don't forget to leave unused coupons in the store right by the product it offers the discount on. Not only will you feel terrific for helping someone else, but the person on the receiving end will be delighted too!
